Ah yes, the improv jam where people just go to marturbate in front of each other. Without pointing out names or even pointing fingers for that matter I will definitely say that most people don't consider jams work or a way to work out they simply see it as a way to show off in front of one another. While I like to think that the Actor's Studio and places like that take what they do a little more seriously, again I feel that improv places and clubs are a place for people to get extremely lazy and indulgent. YES! I do think that people are naturally funny and God bless them, but in order to make a scene really pop, I think that you have to work at it. Maybe some people think that if they are the Michael Jordan of acting or the Michael Jordan of their field, they don't have to rehearse.
I am off topic, my point is though that if you don't want to rehearse, you should get out. Same goes with jams, I feel like they should be a place for learning and for coaching and not for people to look cool and make witty comments to each other. That's what parties and social gatherings are for and going out to lunch and such. There should be some sort of improv jam for the serious actor out there. And yes, I know, there is such thing as the all too serious actor but there has to be the middle ground where the workaholic actor can get his.
This is to form a great newsletter so check it out and let's all be successful actors.
